Sri Ranganatha Perumal Sannidhi

The Supreme Lord, Śrīman Nārāyaṇa—who is fulfilled in Himself, the abode of Śrī Vaikuṇṭha, the Supreme Ruler, and the inner soul of all beings—desiring that all souls and the entire world should attain salvation, and that ignorance should be removed and clarity bestowed, Himself took the Archa (idol) form and descended to Bhūloka, established temples, and blessed the world. He also revealed the Āḻvārs.

Among those Āḻvārs, the illustrious Thirumangai Āḻvār traveled to many Divya Desams, worshipped the Lord, and sang mangalāśāsanam (benedictory hymns). During such travels, after worshipping Śrī Ārāavamudhan and Śrī Kōlavillirāmar Perumāl at Thirukkudanthai and Thiruvalliyangudi, he set out with the intention of worshipping Śrī Amuruviyappan of Thiruvizhandur.

On the way, as it became midday, Thirumangai Āḻvār installed his personal deity for daily worship—Śrī Ranganātha—in a clean and sacred spot, performed his daily religious duties, took rest, and after he and his attendants had completed their meal, prepared to resume the journey.

At that moment, Śrī Ranganātha refused to proceed further with him and instead chose to remain there, establishing Himself permanently and accepting that place as His temple. From that day onwards, this small village came to be known as Śrī Rengarājapuram.
