Sri Kusumakundhalamba Samedha Sri Edumbeswarar Swami temple is connected to the Mahabaratha period. The sthala-puranam depicts that Agnidevan who was attending the thirukalyana vaibhavam of Sri Pasupatheeswarar swamy at Pandanallur had installed a Sivalingam in the direction of Agni and performed poojas.

The Lord was named after Edumbeswarar in view of Veemarajan, one of the kings of Pandavas who killed Edumbesan and offered sincere prayers to this Sivalingam to get rid of that curse.

The infrastructure of the Temple also includes a Madappalli on the right hand side corner as per Agama principles wherein the Neivedhyam is prepared during festival times. Thirukulam is just in front of the Temple as per the tradition. The extent of the tank is around 4.5 acres. Persistent scarcity of water in the adjoining river has an adverse impact on the storage of water in the Temple tank too. Proper measures are undertaken to ensure adequate storage of water in the tank without dependence on the flow of water in the adjoining river.

ஸ்ரீ குசுமகுந்தலாம்பிகா சமேத ஸ்ரீ இடும்பேஸ்பேஸ்வரர் சுவாமி கோயில் மகாபாரதக் காலத்துடன் தொடர்புடையது. பந்தநல்லூரில் ஸ்ரீ பசுபதீஸ்வரர் சுவாமியின் திருக்கல்யாண வைபவத்தில் கலந்து கொண்ட அக்னிதேவன், அக்னி திசையில் சிவலிங்கம் பிரதிஷ்டை செய்து பூஜை செய்ததாக ஸ்தல புராணம் கூறுகிறது.
இடும்பேசனை வதம் செய்த பாண்டவ மன்னர்களில் ஒருவனான வீமராஜனின் நினைவாக இறைவனுக்கு இடும்பேஸ்வரர் என்ற பெயர் ஏற்பட்டது. ஆகம விதிகளின்படி கோயிலின் வலது புற மூலையில் ஒரு மடப்பள்ளி உள்கட்டமைப்பில் இருக்கிறது. திருவிழாக் காலங்களில் இங்கு நெய்வேத்யம் தயாரிக்கப்படும். கோயிலுக்கு முன்புறம் திருக்குளம் உள்ளது. இக்குளத்தின் விஸ்தீரணம் சுமார் 4.5 ஏக்கர். அருகிலுள்ள ஆற்றில் தொடர்ந்து தண்ணீர் பற்றாக்குறை இருப்பதினால் கோயில் குளத்தில் நீர் இருப்பில் மோசமான தாக்கம் ஏற்படுகிறது. அருகிலுள்ள ஆற்றின் நீரோட்டத்தை நம்பாமல் ஏரியில் போதுமான அளவு நீர் இருப்பு இருப்பதை உறுதி செய்ய முறையான நடவடிக்கைகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்படுகின்றன.
